SOUTHEASTERN, N.C. (WECT) – Candidate filing has closed for the 2025 municipal elections in North Carolina.
Voters across the Cape Fear Region will select their representatives, including mayors and commissioners, when they go to the polls later this year.

Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo is running again and will face off against Jonathan Barfield, Jr. and Billy Craig for the seat. Eight candidates filed to fill three seats on the Wilmington City Council, with Luke Waddell running for re-election.
In Carolina Beach, Mayor Lynn Barbee is running for re-election and is being challenged by Youssef Hassan.
Wrightsville Beach Commissioner McKinley (Ken) Dull is the only candidate to have filed to run for the open mayoral seat.
In Southport, Mayor Rich Alt is running against former Southport Mayor Joseph Hatem.
Mayor Allen Oliver of Kure Beach is running unopposed in the 2025 election, as will current mayors David Hales of Bladenboro, Sam Allen of Tar Heel, Nancy Cook of Bolivia, Debbie Smith of Ocean Isle, Olivia Dawson of Burgaw, and several other incumbents in Brunswick, Columbus, Pender and Bladen counties.
Early voting for the municipal elections begins on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and will conclude on Friday, Nov. 1.
