Key election changes for 2025
This year’s primary will look slightly different due to new state legislation passed by the Utah Legislature:
- Ballots must now be received by the Clerk’s Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, August 12. Previously, ballots needed only to be postmarked by the day before.
- Voters will see an option to opt in to future mail-in voting. Beginning in 2029, ballots will only be mailed to voters who have actively opted in. The Summit County Clerk’s Office is allowing voters to make that choice early.
- A new voter ID section appears on ballots, where voters are asked to provide either their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. This will eventually replace signature verification by 2029.
Important dates and deadlines
- Voter registration deadline for receiving a mail ballot: August 1, 2025.
