CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The candidate list for the 2025 municipal elections in Mecklenburg County has been released.
The deadline for candidates to file was at noon on Friday, July 18.
The municipal elections are held on odd-numbered years and are for offices at the local levels that make decisions affecting residents’ day-to-day lives. Those decisions are in relation to areas like local taxes, trash services, policing and more.
Some of the elections have partisan candidates while others do not.

Key dates
In North Carolina, there are three election dates, each held on a Tuesday.
- Sept. 9: Partisan primary for select races, if needed
- Oct. 7: Secondary primary for select races, if needed
- Nov. 4: General election or runoff for all races
Early voting is slated to run from Aug. 21 through Sept. 6, and absentee ballots must be received by Sept. 9.
